New Study on Recognition of Parenthood

Families’ mobility between Member States has increased in the last years. Yet, the differences in the national laws may create obstacles in having the parenthood of the children recognised. Did you know that currently there is no Union legislation governing the recognition of parenthood and that parenthood established in one Member State may not be recognised in another?

The European Commission intends to consider measures to facilitate the recognition of parenthood between Member States. In this context, Spark is participating in a study, together with ICF, to provide the Commission with evidence to carry out an impact assessment for a possible legislative initiative to facilitate the recognition of parenthood. To provide such evidence, Spark is conducting a comparative analysis of the relevant national legislation and practice in 26 Member States.See more information on the Commission’s initiative here.
