Herman Hirvensalo is a Trainee Legal Consultant at Spark Legal and Policy Solutions, having joined the team in September 2026.
Herman holds a bachelor’s degree in EU law and a master's degree in EU Business Law from Maastricht University, specialising in Competition Law. During his studies, he completed an exchange semester at the University of British Columbia (UBC) in Vancouver with a focus on Canadian business law. He graduated in 2026, with a particular interest in EU competition, regulatory, and cross-border business law.
Prior to joining Spark, Herman gained experience in both legal advisory and policy-related work. He supported corporate EU advocacy efforts as a legal assistant for a Finnish advocacy organization in Brussels and advised startups through a pro bono legal clinic in Maastricht. His master's thesis explored the application of EU merger control rules to the European defence sector, further strengthening his understanding of the interaction between law, policy, and economics.
Herman is a native Finnish speaker and fluent in English.
